Happy Holidays to All
these are actual photographs of real snowflakes taken in a lab by a professor at cal tech. aren't they gorgeous!

Kenneth Libbrecht, a professor of physics at California Institute of Technology, photographs snowflakes in the field and in his lab. Studio-type lighting, even outdoors, brings out angles, texture and color that are otherwise hard to spot. Click to enlarge.

who's your nanny?
i am filling in for a friend this week and for the next 2 and a half weeks as a nanny to this adorable little monkey!

i ask you... have you ever seen a cuter nugget? his name is christian and he is 8 months old. his father is from haiti and his mother is american. he has this lovely chocolately skin and those great big blue eyes!
he is running me ragged but it's fun to be around a baby again. i haven't spent any significant amount of time with a baby since notsoccer mom's son was born. i come home at night smelling like baby. i mean that in the best possible way of course. when i come home from notsoccer mom's i smell like a sweaty 9 year old boy.

saturday on the vineyard...
this past saturday i was invited to a private tour and tasting at the savannah chanelle winery in the santa cruz mountains. there were about 9 or 10 of us if you count the kids even though they weren't doing any tasting. the morning was cold but bright. we were very lucky because it was supposed to have rained.
here are some pix i took during the tour:

ed, our tour guide

the chardonay vines

what was left of my pinot sample

the cellar

luke, one of the other employees using the wine thief to grab me a sample from one of the barrels.
this is by far one of the coolest things i have ever done. i might even get to go back at bottling time as a volunteer to bottle.

hello lover...
remember when carrie bradshaw in "Sex in the City" saw those adorable shoes in the window and cooed, "Hello, lover!" to them? have you had that kind of a moment over a pair of shoes you just HAD to have, a pair you just FELL in love with?
i had dinner with my friends Mr. and Mrs. L tonight. we met at 5:30 for half price burger night at st. johns grill and spent a few hours catching up. i had a rather delicious roasted garlic and bleu cheese burger. YUM!
we watched the end of the sharks game and gabbed. mrs. L, like myself, has become a fashion whore. we both love the expensive bags, jewelry and shoes. we talked about shows like "the rachel zoe project", "tim gunn's guide to style" and "what not to wear". mr. L got bored and headed home leaving us two ladies to chat.
mrs. L had mentioned to me the other day that her mother-in-law had given her some hand me downs. including a pair of channel mules, and some adorable manolo blahniks. mrs. L and i have the same problem in feet. WIDE! anyway, when we finally left the restaurant at 9:30, we stood outside next to her car talking. she then told me that she had the manolo's in the car. her next line nearly made me have a heart attack and drop dead on the spot. "try them on, if they fit, they are yours!" i was all, "shut up!" then i immediately slipped off my birkenstocks and slid my right foot (the larger of my feet) into the shoe of my dreams. it fit like a glove. so i gently slid on the left one. fearful that because of my bruised and beaten toes on my left foot that it wouldn't fit... HA! imagine my surprise when not only did it fit, but was so comfortable that i couldn't even feel the bruises or blisters on my toes.
please ignore the fact that i am badly in need of a pedicure and instead look only at the HUGE blister on my pinky toe and the bruise on my big toe nail.

that is what happens when you do a marathon.
anyway, back to the shoes... they are so beautiful. the leather is so soft. and the workmanship is exquisite! there really is something to shoes made in italy.

i can't wait until i am able to wear these beauties to work, or some special event. i don't know how carrie wore hers all the time. i am afraid something would happen to them. they already have their own special box in my closet.

serious sweetness....
so yesterday roommate M went to a wedding. it was one of her friends from high school. after the reception ended, roommate M's date went down and crashed the reception of the other wedding that was happening at the same place. it turns out that he knew the band or something. so while he and roommate M were hanging around the crashed wedding reception the groom gets up on the stage and starts talking about how he doesn't know how to play the guitar or anything. he then takes a guitar from one of the guys in the band and tells his new bride that he has spent the last two months learing how to play because he wanted to play this song for her on their wedding day. and he busts out with the "grow old with you" song from the movie "the wedding singer". how freakin' sweet is that.
Grow old with you...
I wanna make you smile when you're sad
Carry you around when your arthritis is bad
All I wanna do is grow old with you.
I'll get your medicine when your tummy aches
build you a fire if the furnace breaks
Oh it could be so nice, growin old with you.
I'll miss you, kiss you, give you my coat when you are cold.
Need you, feed you, I'll even let you hold the remote control.
So let me do the dishes in the kitchen sink
Put you to bed when you've had too much to drink.
Oh I could be the man to grow old with you.
I wanna grow old with you
Grow old with you...
I wanna make you smile when you're sad
Carry you around when your arthritis is bad
All I wanna do is grow old with you.
I'll get your medicine when your tummy aches
build you a fire if the furnace breaks
Oh it could be so nice, growin old with you.

Put you to bed when you've had too much to drink.
Oh I could be the man to grow old with you.
I wanna grow old with you
